Albert “Buddy” Dean Gookin
Rock Springs - Albert “Buddy” Dean Gookin, 79, of Rock Springs died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 11, 1933 in Chariton, Iowa, the son of Dean H. Gookin and Lucille Delpierre Gookin. He attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1951.
He married Beverly J. Matthews December 6, 1952 in Rock Springs.
He had been employed by Bunning Transfer, Allied Chemical, and
Cummins. He also operated a gas station and worked as a mechanic at Gookin’s Auto Garage in Rock Springs.
He was a member of the Rock Springs Elk Lodge #624 where he held position as Exalted Ruler.
His interests were hunting, fishing, trap shooting, golfing, camping, snowmobiling, traveling, dancing, and the Wyoming Cowboys.
Survivors include his wife Beverly Gookin of Rock Springs; daughter Michealine Dernovich and husband Rob of Rock Springs; sister Jacquie Dolce and husband John of Rock Springs; sister-in-law Margene Facinelli and husband Bill of Rock Springs; brother-in-laws, Robert Matthews and wife Betty of St. Paul, Minn., and Gary Matthews and wife Cheryl of Bozeman, Montana; granddaughters Desiree Berry and husband Paul, and Jennifer Sain and husband Dave all of Rock Springs; great-grandchildren Zachary Berry, Braxton Berry, and Hunter Sain all of Rock Springs; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dean and Lucille Gookin, sister Connie Henderson, and great-granddaughter Allison Sain.
Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs.
