Benjamin Leroy Cordova
Rock Springs - Benjamin Leroy Cordova, 70, of Rock Springs, died October 26, 2011 at his home in Rock Springs after a sudden illness.
He was born November 6, 1940 in Chamisal, New Mexico, the son of Benjamin Cordova Sr. and Mary Pacheco Cordova. He was a former resident of Green River where he attended Lincoln High School.
He entered the military in 1960 and served in the US Army. He was assigned to Battery B of the 4th Infantry Division’s 42nd Artillery at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He participated in Exercise Lava Plains, a joint Army-Air Force field training exercise at the Yakima, Washington Firing Center.
He married Peggy Ann Tolar on March 22, 1980 in Cody, Wyoming.
Benjamin was employed at OCI until his retirement in 2003 after 28 years.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion in Rock Springs. He was also a member of the Catholic Church.
His interests were camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Cordova of Rock Springs; daughter Liz Short and fiancé James Wakefield of Rock Springs; brothers, Elmer Cordova and Wilfred Cordova and wife Shirley all of Green River; sister Felicia Montoya and husband Leo of Green River; grandchildren, Anna Williams and husband Tim of Riverton, Wyoming, Maria and Ayiana Lopez of Rock Springs; great-grandson Justin Williams of Riverton; his special friend “George”; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Linda Potino, Eliza Rodriquez, and Vicki Gardea.
Cremation will take place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
Private family services will be held.
