Scottsdale, AZ – Blanch Lavon Salmon West Flor, 98, former Rock Springs resident died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at Paradise Place in Scottsdale, Arizona where she had been a resident the past several years. She was born April 13, 1907, in Coalville, Utah, the 10th of 11 children, born to Sarah Ann (Wilson) and Franklin Dewey Salmon. She attended schools in coalville and graduated from North Summit High School in Coalville with the class of 1924. She worked as a telephone operator until her marriage to Owen W. West on April 4, 1928 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in Hoytsville and Price, Utah and later resided in Rock Springs, Wyoming. After 32 years their marriage ended in divorce in 1960. In 1963, she married Robert J. Flor, Sr. in Rock Springs, Wyoming. They resided in Rock Springs for many years then moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1993 where she led water exercise classes until the age of 93. Mr. Flor preceded her in death in 2003 after 40 years of marriage. She was member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, teaching Primary, Sunday School and Mutual classes, and was the Ward Chorister for several years. She organized and conducted a singing mothers group and twice held the position of Relief Society President. She also served as a Visiting Teacher for 44 years. She was a member of the Rock Springs Woman’s Club and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Her interests included homemaking, cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, quilting and family. She made more than 100 handmade quilts and afghans for family and friends. She sent Christmas and birthday cards to all in her family every year until her passing. Survivors include her children Larry O. West and wife Carole of Rock Springs; C. Keith West of Scottsdale, Arizona, Marjene West of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Barbara West Sandstrom of Wheatridge, Colorado; stepson Robert J. Flor Jr. and wife Ira of Rock Springs; 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, four great-great grand children, 2 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and 7 sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2006, at the White Mountain LDS Church, 3306 White Mountain Boulevard in Rock Springs. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs, and Friday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will follow in Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
