Bob Dahl

Long-time Wyoming resident, Bob Dahl of Rock springs, passed away Sunday, February 13, after a courageous battle with cancer. His sister, Nancy Tohl and her husband David, and longtime Friend Henry Hewitt, of Rawlins were at his side. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, February 16, at noon at Fox Funeral Home in Rock Springs where friends may call 1 hour prior to the services. Bob was born May 26, 1948 in Portland, Oregon the son of Jalmer B. and Mary (Yettick) Dahl. He was raised and educated in Portland, moving to Wyoming during his career with Pacific Power. He was married to Annette (Vrooman) Dahl on April 2, 1999, and she preceded him in death. Bob often referred to Anne as the love of his life, and faced her loss with dignity and courage, thanking the Lord for having ever found her and getting up every day and going on. Bob joined Pacific Power in June 1971 as a customer clerk in Portland, Oregon and retired on January 5, 2005 in Rock Springs. During his more than 33 years with the company, Bob worked in 10 communities throughout Wyoming and Oregon in the customer office, the sales organization and field operations. Most recently, he was the Corporate Accounts regional manager for Wyoming and Idaho, and his team was recognized for leading PacifiCorp’s overall customer satisfaction rating in this year’s Total Quality Service survey. According to friends, Bob Dahl was the quintessential “company man” in all the best meanings of the phrase. He worked tirelessly for Pacific Power and its customers and employees, and most importantly, for the communities in which he lived and worked. Bob was actively involved in numerous leadership positions, including serving as a member of the Board of Directors for seven Chambers of Commerce, with three terms as president; on eight economic development boards of directors, including SWEDA, with nine terms as president; as a charter member as well as president of the Wyoming Economic Development Association; and as chairman of the Rawlins Planning and Zoning Commission. He also was appointed by Gov. Mike Sullivan to Wyoming’s Judicial Nominating Commission and by Gov. Jim Geringer to the chairmanship of the Wyoming Work First Steering Committee. He was active in the Elks, the VFW, and the Rotary Club. His personal interests were as varied as his professional activities, including boating, motorcycling, scuba diving, and driving his special cars. Bob also was a Vietnam Veteran, and served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot where he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Tohl and her husband David of Agoura Hills, California; daughters, Elizabeth Dahl of Tacoma, Washington, and Michelle Dahl of Portland, Oregon; step-son, Karey Klaus of Colorado Springs, Colorado; step-daughter, Lindsay Garland of Denver, Colorado; niece and nephew, Simone Tohl and Michael Tohl of Agoura Hills, California; cousin, Jon Hissner of Astoria, Oregon; and close friend Henry Hewitt of Rawlins, Wyoming.
