Rock Springs - Bobby Lee "River" Boyd, 65, of 50 Reliance Rd. #24, Rock Springs passed away surrounded by his family Saturday, April 14, 2007 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 11, 1942 in Bigelow, Missouri, the son of Robert Howard and Mary Francis Dukes Boyd. Bobby attended schools in Mound City, Fortesque, and Craig, Missouri. He attended high school in Ponca, Nebraska and at the age of 17 joined the US Navy. He served his country on the USS Kitty Hawk from 1959 to 1962 and was involved in the Cubin Missile Crisis. He married Donna Kay Rogers on October 1, 1966 in Auburn, Nebraska. They had three daughters, Laura, Shannon, and Lee Ann. They made their home in Craig, Missouri until 1977. While in Missouri, Bobby was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 101. He worked on many constructions sites that included many sections of Highway 29, the Arrowhead Stadium, and the KCI International Airport. After moving to Wyoming, he worked on many constructions sites including the Bridger Coal Plant. He also drove a bus for the Star Transit Authority. He was the first director of the Rock Springs Food Bank. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rock Springs. His interests included hunting, fishing, camping, watching westerns, reading Louis Lamar books, the Kansas City Chiefs, re-enacting the Mountain Man era and attending many rendezvous. He gave presentations about the mountain man to local grade schools, at Frontier Days, and for local Boy Scouts. Also his interests were spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Donna of Rock Springs; three daughters, Laura Hale and husband Bryan of Rock Springs, Shannon Alam and husband Moe, LeeAnn Jordan and husband Kurt all of Rock Springs; two sisters, Edie Ziass and Roberta Boyd both of Pickering, Missouri; grandchildren, Allen Jordan, Tayler and Logan Alam, Diana, Eric and Colten Hale; one aunt, Reve Dukes of Richmond, Missouri; mountain man brothers, Red Williams of Vernal, Utah, and Darrell Johnson of Green River; niece Kristi Ivey and her daughter “Princess” Mia; nephew Nick Hayward and his daughter Kaylee of Rock Springs; sister-in-law Susan Hayward of Rock Springs, and several other nieces, nephews sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws residing in Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Boyd, grandparents, Lafe and Florida Boyd, Madison and Mora Dukes, and many aunts and uncles. Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Rock Springs, 527 C. Street, Rock Springs. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Archie Hay Post 24, Rock Springs. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2007 at 919 Applewood Dr., Rock Springs. Additional memorial services will be held in Missouri.
