Carl Nordstrom

Carl J. Nordstrom Rock Springs - Carl J. Nordstrom, 69, of Rock Springs, died at home on Oct. 25, 2013 following a brief illness. He was born June 17, 1944 to Cal and Martha Pullum Nordstrom in Concord, Calif. He attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1963. While in high school he participated in track and football. He went on to college and then enlisted in the Army. He served in Vietnam as a forward positioned air traffic controller. Upon his discharge from the military, he attended Metropolitan State in Denver and earned his law degree at the University of Wyoming. Upon passing the bar he served as a state public defender in Sweetwater County until his retirement. He held a private pilots license and was involved in helping his dad develop Rolling Green Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He was one of the original partners in Killpeppers. On Jan. 28, 1989, he married Nancy Soderlund. They purchased the Park Hotel and operated it for 20 years. Carl served on numerous boards in the community including United Way, Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce, Red Desert Roundup, and Rock Springs Planning and Zoning. His interests included watching sports, and spending time with friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Rock Springs; his father-in-law Edwin Soderlund; brothers Mike and his companion Lynn of Farmington, N.M., and John and wife Diane of Salt Lake City; sister Christine Hanson and husband Nels of Hermiston, Ore., niece Kelsy Hanson Boekenoogin and husband Scott of Pullum, Wash.; brothers-in-law John Soderlund of Denver, Jim Soderlund of Phoenix and Jay Soderlund of Grand Junction, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory. A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov 4, 2013 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 116 Broadway, Rock Springs. Father Glen Szczechowski will officiate. Military honors and inurnment will follow at the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery, Rock Springs.
