Charmaine Marlene Smith
Green River-Charmaine Marlene Smith, 73, of Green River passed away Friday, October 7, 2005 at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River after a lengthy illness.
Charmaine was born January 13, 1932 in Kemmerer, Wyoming, the daughter of Frieda and Fernand Fagnant. She was raised in Kemmerer and was a 1950 graduate of Kemmerer High School. She attended the University of Wyoming for one year before getting married and moving to Utah.
She married William Dean Smith in June, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have enjoyed 53 years together.
Charmaine and Dean moved to Green River in 1953 when Dean accepted a job with FMC. She substitute taught for many years in the Green River School District. She also taught piano lessons for many years.
She has been a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions. She directed and presented many plays, musicals and cantatas. Her musical ability has helped many people develop a love for music.
Her other interests included quilting, sewing, bird watching, helping with weddings and spending time with her family.
She felt a civic responsibility to her community and served on the Castle Rock Hospital Board for many years. She also volunteered many hours at the Convalescent Center by playing the piano for the entertainment and bringing back memories of better days.
Survivors include her husband, Dean of Green River; five children, Russell Smith and wife Lee, Nanette Lacey and husband Ken, and Brad Smith and wife Barbara, all of Green River, Jan Studer and husband Wally of Rupert, Idaho, and Ross Smith and wife Chris of Cheyenne, Wyoming; 22 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Fagnant and wife Betty and Armand Fagnant and wife Myrtle of Kemmerer, WY; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Fernand Fagnant, her mother Frieda Fagnant Little, her brother Gary Fagnant, and her step-father William Little.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at the Green River LDS Stake Center, 120 Shoshone Ave, Green River. Bishop Greg O’Neil will be officiating. Friends may call 6:00-7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the church and also 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Wednesday prior to services at the church.
Interment will take place in the Riverview Cemetery, Green River.
