Don ‘Mr. Green Beard’ Eastman Donald A. Eastman passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, January 12, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Don was born April 8, 1930 in Forsythe, Montana. In May of 1952 he married his sweetheart Elizabeth 'Betty' Eastman. Don lived a full, happy life filled with achievements. In high school, his 6 man football team won the District Championship. He went on to graduate as the Valedictorian of his class. In 1952 he received an Industrial Engineering degree from Montana State. Employed by FMC for 30 years, he retired in 1993. Don was an avid rock hound, jeweler, and geology enthusiast. In his spare time, he created beautiful pieces of Intarsia and gemstone jewelry. He was published in Rock & Gem Magazine for his expertise on fossils and petrified wood. And perhaps most importantly, he was known for always sharing his knowledge and gifts in this area. Don was known as 'Mr. Green Beard' after spending years painting his beard green and showing up to support every Green River High School football game that he could. He would often meet the busses of students upon their return to the school after away games. ln March of 2005, he was honored to attend a banquet in Casper, Wyoming where he received the award of 'Wyoming's Greatest High School Football Fan for 2OO4'. This award was received from the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame. Don gave his time to his family and this community freely and always with joy. He loved life, discovery, and the beauty he found and created in his hobbies. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed. Don is survived by wife Betty Eastman of Green River; sister Ruth Knight of Milltown, Montana; son Dan Eastman of West Minster, CO, son Jim Eastman and wife Josie of Green River, daughter Annette Cordier and husband Charles of Green River; grandchildren Matt Eastman, Jennifer Whitten, Kristin Frink, Aaron Eastman, Charles Cordier V, and Vanessa Cordier; and nine great grandchildren. Don is preceded in death by parents Oscar and Vieno Eastman. Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs. At his request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of Sweetwater County or the Green River High School Athletic Club.
