Eleanor Caroline Schofield Green River - Eleanor Caroline Schofield, 93, of Green River died Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Life Care Center in Idaho Falls. She was born September 16, 1915 in Green River, the daughter of Emil A. and Eleanor Rose Eggs Gaensslen. She attended schools in Green River and graduated from Green River High School with the class of 1933. She then attended St. Mary’s of the Lake in Southbend, Indiana, where she received her bachelor of science degree in 1937. Following college, she worked as a therapeutic dietician in Chicago and Denver and for the US Army during WWII. Eleanor married Frank R. Schofield, March 29, 1942 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1961. She operated her mother’s dress shop, "The Gaensslen Shoppe" in Green River 1953 to 1961. She was employed by as a teacher at Washington and Jefferson Elementary in Green River until her retirement in January of 1985. After her retirement, she served with the Peace Corp in Belize in 1990 and also was a House Mother at University of Wyoming for the KKG and Chi Omega Sorority and at the University of Utah Tri-Delta Sorority. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Green River. She was a volunteer for St. John’s Thrift Shop and member of the Wednesday Morning Group. Her interests include traveling, walking, and spending time with her family. Survivors include her daughter E. Victoria Schofield of Green River; four sons, Jonathan G. Schofield and wife Wyvonna of Goodyear, Arizona, E. Richard Schofield of Richmond, Virginia, F. David Schofield and wife Hagan Dudley of Jackson, Christopher Q. Schofield of Green River; one sister-in-law, Fern B. Gaensslen of Green River; four grandchildren Troy C. Schofield of Richmond Virginia, Eleanor C, Helen V, and C. A. Thomas Schalow all of Green River; two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, parents, two brothers, and one sister-in-law. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 900 Hitching Post Drive, Green River. The Rev. Carl Beavers will officiate. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the church where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Riverview Cemetery, Green River.
