Faye Mangum

March 30, 1914 — November 26, 2005

Willie Faye Mangum, 91, long time resident of Las Vegas, Nevada died November 18, 2005 at her daughter’s home in Tustin, California, after a long illness. She was born March 30, 1914 in Tulia, Texas, the daughter of George Morgan and Cora Ellen Williams Bartlett. She married Clarence L. Mangum in Clovis, New Mexico December 1, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple on April 24,1964. Faye attended schools in New Mexico and Texas and graduated from High School in Meadow, Texas. She attended beauty school and eventually owned her own salon in Gallop, New Mexico. When the family moved to Arizona, she owned a salon in Chandler. Later, the family moved to California and lived in Rosemead, Santa Ana, and Costa Mesa. For some time, Faye continued to own a salon in Santa Ana, but changed careers and eventually retired from Fairview State Hospital as a psychiatric technician. Upon retirement, Clarence and Faye moved to Las Vegas in 1973. Faye was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as a Primary teacher and MIA teacher. She was a Dance Director for many years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, painting, and doing family genealogical research. She served as a Stake Missionary in the Genealogy Library in Las Vegas. Survivors include her step-son William K. Mangum, MD of Gilbert, Arizona, a son Daryl Mangum of Henderson, Nevada and a daughter, Sandra Karen Fox of Tustin, California, 17 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, her brother Bert Barlett, and her 3 sisters – Erma Greenwood, Gaylord Harrold, and her twin Georgie Mae Madison. Memorial services were held in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 26th at 10:30 AM in the Las Vegas 1st Ward Chapel. Interment was in the Palm Cemetery in Henderson, Nevada.
