Gary W. Hawks
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Gary W. Hawks, 85, of Rock Springs, died July 16, 2011, in Grand Junction, Colo., following a sudden illness.
He was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Rock Springs, the son of Andrew Hawks and Luella Conger. He attended school in Rock Springs. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 13, 1943 to Jan. 24, 1946.
He married Alice H. Harns in Rock Springs on Oct. 3, 1946. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2006.
He was employed at FMC Corp. as a heavy equipment operator for 31 years before retiring on June 7, 1985.
Survivors include two sons, Craig D. Hawks and Mark Hawks, both of Grand Junction; one daughter, Ann Lorraine McKee and husband William of Abbeville, La.; one brother, Carl A. Hawks and wife Sharon of Rock Springs; one sister, Deniece Johnston and husband Jim of Ogden, Utah; three cousins who were raised as family; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Hawks; mother, Luella Conger; four sisters; and three brothers.
A private graveside service with military honors is to be conducted on July 26, 2011.
