Gaylen Douglas Jarvie Green River - Gaylen Douglas Jarvie, 56, of Green River died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born June 15, 1955 in Logan, Utah, the son of Douglas Clay Jarvie and Eutona Veloy Briggs Jarvie. He graduated from Mountain View High School with the class of 1973. He also attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he received a BS degree in Law Enforcement. He married Lori Ann Hatch on March 8, 1998 in Rangely, Colorado. Gaylen served as Daggett County Sheriff for 26 years. He was the youngest elected sheriff in Utah and also served the longest number of terms. He had been employed as a Wyoming State adult probation and parole officer and later held the rank of Major for the Sweetwater County Sheriffs Department until his death. He was a member of the both the Utah and Wyoming Sheriffs Associations and both Utah and Wyoming Cattleman’s Associations. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His interests were horses, cattle, ranching, Harleys, and muscle cars. Survivors include his wife Lori of Green River; children; Douglas and Denise Jarvie and their children Aurora and Tristan of Aurora, Colorado, Jason and Tara Jarvie and their children Taylor and Peyton of St. George, Utah, Jennifer and James Kaferly of Dallas, Texas; step-children Rae Ann Ruble and husband Paul Sawyer of Manila, Utah; William Ruble of Rock Springs, and Katherine Suzann Ruble of Manila, Utah (who preceded Gaylen in death), and parents Doug and Eutona Jarvie of Green River; brother Gilbert Jarvie and wife Elaine of Provo, Utah; sister Tammee Hill of Green River; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Visitation (closed casket) will be held 8:30 a.m. -9:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Green River LDS Stake Center, 120 Shoshone, Green River. Interment will take place in the Manila Cemetery, Manila, Utah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cowboys Against Cancer, 893 Dewar Dr., Rock Springs, WY, 82901.
