George Fredrick Smith Rock Springs - George Fredrick Smith, 62, of Rock Springs died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born April 7, 1950 in Tooele, Utah, the son of George Howard Smith and Jewel Christine Knight. He attended schools in LaSal, Utah and Monticello High School in Monticello, Utah. He was a veteran having served in the US Army during the Viet Nam War. He married Carolyn Bennett in Moab, Utah July 1969. The were later divorced. He married Linda Frances Wright February 6, 1980 in Grand Junction, Colorado. George had worked in the uranium mines in Utah and New Mexico for Home Stake Mining Company. He then worked in the oilfield for Stewart Brothers Drilling Company. He later moved to Rock Springs and was employed at FMC for and short time, then starting driving for Pete Zanetti for 17 years, Star Bus for 7 years, and then worked as a clerk for Rock Springs Maverick until his retirement. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His interests were hunting, fishing, tinkering with motors and guns, reading, and spending time with his children. Survivors include his wife Linda Smith of Rock Springs; sons Duane O. Smith and wife Beth of Milwaukie, Oregon, and George Edward Smith of Rock Springs; daughters Christine Parker and husband Carlos of Woodward, Oklahoma, Cathy Lynn Smith and husband Gerald Shane of Vernal, Utah, and Jeannie Sue Hunt and husband Robert of Powell, Wyoming; brother Gary Lynn Smith and wife Susan of Butte, Montana; brother-in-law Al Bradshaw of Beaver, Utah; sister Terry Hoisington and husband Leroy of Grants, New Mexico; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Jewel Smith, grandparents, sisters Patricia Smith and Kay Bradshaw, nephew Troy Bradshaw, son-in-law William Harper. Cremation will take place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the George Smith Memorial Fund at any Rock Springs National Bank location.
