Henry "Hank" Holbrook Green River - Henry H. "Hank" Holbrook, 87, of Green River, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River after a short illness He was born August 20, 1923 in Traphill, North Carolina, the son of Ernest “Dee” and Ruth Higgins Holbrook. He graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1941 on May 29th. He married Dorothy Twitchell October 20, 1951 in Evanston. Bishop William Harris performed the ceremony. Henry was a Corporal in the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. His awards and honors included the Purple Heart, the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, Korean War Service Medal, Two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was honorably discharged from the service on November 20, 1952. Henry was employed as a pipe fitter for the Union Pacific Railroad. For a brief period of time he delivered mail for the United States Postal Service. His final career was working for the Green River Police Department. He served as a Sergeant and as Assistant Chief of Police. His interests included a love of rifles. He was a life-time member of the National Rifle Association. He had a love for history. His Knowledge impressed all who came to know him. He explored many areas of interest in Wyoming and knew and shared a great deal about early frontier history. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed his newspaper out in the country when he could drive. He had a great interest in genealogy work. He researched his family line back to the 1500's. He enjoyed his family on many outings and reunions. The last ten years of Henry’s life have been spent at the Villa/Castle Rock Convalescent Center where he has been an active participant in Bingo and Bible Study. Survivors include his son-in-law and longtime care giver, Allen West of Green River; granddaughter, Kelly June Hughes and husband Bryan of Green River; three great-grandchildren, Jamie Cudney and husband Bobby of Green River, Stephanie Lemon and husband Jeremiah of Rock Springs, and Allen Michael Hughes of Provo, Utah; six great-great-grandchildren, Joshua Wayne Cudney, Allysa June Cudney, Colter Jacob Cudney, Jordan Colleen Cudney all of Green River, Emily June Lemon and Abigail Kimberly Lemon of Rock Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and step-daughter, Colleen June West. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center, 1445 Uinta Dr., Green River where friends may call one hour prior to services. Military honors and interment will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 12, 2011 at the Manila Cemetery, Manila, Utah.
