James Benjamin “Ben”Sherrod
Green River - Ben Sherrod died Monday April 2, 2012 following a lengthy illness. He was born on June 20th, 1943 in Rock Springs the son of Gladys and Frank Sherrod. He was the youngest of 5 children.
He was a long time resident of Green River. He was an accomplished athlete, lettering in high school in many sports, and went to North Western Community College in Powell, Wyoming on a football scholarship.
He married his wife of 43 years Carol August 30, 1968 in Riverdale, Utah.
He had been employed as a maintenance mechanic for OCI for 35 years.
Ben was an avid horseman and rode with the Pony Express for many years. He was also involved in the Mine Rescue team and was the co-captain of the National Champion Mine Rescue Team. He was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2350. His other interests were spending time with his family and being outdoors. He was an inventor and entrepreneur.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Sherrod of Green River; son Kirk Sherrod and his wife Kimberly of Green River; daughter Monica Sackuvich and her husband David of Falcon, Colorado; five grandchildren, Kirk Allen Sherrod Jr., Collin Sherrod, Maddelyn Sackuvich, Jackson Sackuvich, and Evangeline Sackuvich; brother, Donald Sherrod and wife Carol, of Saratoga, Wyoming; sister Janet Fox and husband Harry of Washington, Utah; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Earl Rude, sister Sylvia Rude and granddaughter Jocelyn Sackuvich.
Graveside service and interment will take place at 4:00 p.m. Saturday April 7, 2012 at the Riverview Cemetery, Green River.
