John "Chick" Soltis

Rock Springs - John "Chick" Soltis Jr., 80 of Rock Springs, died Sunday May 20, 2007 at the Dixie Medical Center in St. George, Utah after a sudden illness. He was a life long resident of Superior and Rock Springs. He was born April 24, 1927 in Superior, Wyoming., the son of the late John Soltis and Helen Mathew Soltis. He graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1945. He enlisted in the US Army in 1946 and served with the 383rd Military Police Battalion and was discharged from Fort Dix in 1947. He married Renee Thompson on September 17, 1955 in Superior, Wyoming. Chick was employed at the UP Coal Store and as a welder for the Union Pacific Coal Co. In 1959, he worked for FMC and retired in 1989 after 30 years. His interests were spending time with his family, woodworking, crossword puzzles, camping, fishing, spending time as his cabin during the summer and spending the winters in Hurricane, Utah. Survivors include his wife Renee Soltis of Rock Springs; one son, Dennis Soltis and wife Linda of Rock Springs; two daughters, Debbie Soltis of Rock Springs, and Robin Soltis Child and husband Kent of Caldwell, Idaho; one brother, William Boyd Soltis and wife Hannah of Rock Springs; two sisters, Bette Quinton and Margaret Robinson of Hanford, California; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday May 24, 2007 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007 and one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment with military honors by the American Legion Archie Hay Post 24 will be at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Rock Springs.
