John A. Fraher
Rock Springs - John A. Fraher, 91, of Rock Springs died Monday, October 15, 2012 at his home.
He was born September 12, 1921 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Joseph Fraher and Mary Elizabeth McDermott Fraher. He attended schools in Rawlins and graduated from Rawlins High School with the class of 1940. He receive a degree from the Colorado School of Mines.
He was a veteran having served in the US Army during World War II.
He married Jerry Strain June 16, 1948 in El Paso, Texas. She preceded him in death September 24, 2012.
He was a long time regulator for the oil & gas industry working for United States Geological Survey until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of Rock Springs Kiwanis and Kiwanis in Montana holding the position of Lieutenant Governor. He was a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers, Knights of Columbus, and the Young at Hearts Senior Center. He was also a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.
His interests were golfing, fishing, camping, playing bridge, and walking all over Rock Springs. He was an avid supporter of Rock Springs High School Athletics.
Survivors include son Richard Fraher of Rock Springs; daughter Kathy Fraher of Rock Springs; son-in-law John Larsen of Rock Springs; brothers Mike Fraher of Seattle, Washington and Father Joseph Fraher of Laramie; sister Eileen Drause of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren Amy Larsen and Toni Pinkham both of Rock Springs, and Erik Larsen of Ponce, Puerto Rico; 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jerry Fraher, and daughter Terri Larsen.
Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, A. Street and Broadway, Rock Springs.
A vigil service with rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the church.
Inurnment with military honors will follow in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
