Keith West

C. Keith West Phoenix, AZ - C. Keith West passed away peacefully December 2,2013 in Phoenix, Arizona surrounded by family. He was born on April 7, 1931 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Blanche and Owen West. He grew up in Rock Springs with his brother Larry West and sister Barbara Sandstrom. Rock Springs was his home. After graduating from Rock Springs High school he graduated from BYU with a degree in Business Administration. Keith married Marjene Hansen and they had five children, Chuck, Steve, Ken, Jan and Neil. Keith worked with his father and brother at Desert Oil Company eventually owning and operating several successful businesses until his retirement. Obtaining his pilot’s license made travel more efficient for conducting business. Keith was civic minded and had a strong belief to give back to his community. He was a member of many organizations and boards over the years, Rock Springs school board, president of state school board and mayor of Rock Springs to list a few. Keith’s shared his love of the outdoors with his family and friends. Many hours were spent coaching and attending sporting events his children participated in. His children were always impressed that he could water ski across Fremont Lake during summer vacations at the cabin. Family and friends enjoyed many rounds of golf with Keith. He had a passion for hunting and traveled worldwide. His trophies include the grand slam of sheep twice and Safari Club International Big 5 twice. He was a stubborn but generous man who lent a helping hand to many. Once he set his mind on something there was no stopping him. He touched many lives in his 82 years. He is survived by Marjene West, Chuck & Tresa West, Steve West and Jolyn Morgando, Ken and Tonette West, Jan and Matthew Maicki, Neil West, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Owen West, mother Blanche Flor, step-father Robert Flor Sr. and sister Barbara Sandstrom. Our hearts are heavy but our memories will live on. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Monday, December 9th, 2013 at The Broadway Theater, 618 Broadway, Rock Springs, WY.
