Keith LeRoy Young
Green River, WY - Keith LeRoy Young, 60, died May 24, 2008, in Green River, Wyoming, the place he and his family have called home for 33 years. Keith was doing one of the things he enjoyed most - running -- when he passed away. He was returning along the Green Belt path to his earthly home when he died and continued running toward his heavenly home and those loved ones who have gone before to prepare the way for him.
Keith was born June 20, 1947, in Heber City, Utah, to Wilson L. & Dulce Rose Young. He was a graduate of Wasatch High School with the class of 1965 and attended Dixie College and BYU.
While in high school, Keith excelled in athletics. His accomplishments were numerous and included all-state honors in various sports. He received many scholarship offers from various colleges and universities and chose to continue his education at Dixie College in St. George, Utah, on a football scholarship. After playing for one year at Dixie, Keith moved on to BYU where he competed with his beloved Cougar track team on a track and field scholarship. During his lifetime, Keith never lost his love for running.
Keith was married to his sweetheart of 41 years, Doreen Pugh, on December 19, 1966 in Midway, Utah. There marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
After living in Provo while attending school, Keith & Doreen moved to Wyoming, settling in Green River where they reared their family of seven children, expanding that number to eight as their nephew, Darren Glathar, joined the family and became their third "son".
Along with a wonderful posterity, Keith's legacy will be his service to others. Even on the day he died, he had planned to serve his family members one of his famous dutch oven dinners. He will be remembered for being the first one at a church function, making certain the doors were opened and everything was ready, and the last one to leave the kitchen when the last dish was put away and the doors were again locked.
Keith gave a lifetime of devoted service to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in positions in most organizations. He was called as Bishop of the Green River 5th Ward at the tender age of 30 and later served in the Green River Wyoming Stake Presidency for nine years.
Keith is survived by his wife, Doreen and children Lisa (Kenneth) Shelton, Las Vegas, Nevada; David (Jeanna), Green River; Darren Glathar (Emily), Green River; Andrea (Kevin) Wilson, Orem, Utah; Allison (Byron) Killpack, Laramie, Wyoming, Jeffrey Keith (Julie), Evanston, Wyoming; Vicki (Steven) Lake, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Jaclyn (Ryan) Harmon, Jackson.
