L.C. “Speed” Skiles
Rock Springs – L.C. “Speed” Skiles, 87, passed away in his sleep on July 22, 2005 at his home in Rock Springs. He suffered from Alzheimer’s disease the last five years.
L.C. was born on September 5, 1917, the son of Thomas J. and Fanny Elizabeth Jackson Skiles. At twelve years old, he lost his father to an automobile accident. With no means of financial support, he was forced to leave school and work to support his family. At the age of thirteen he found employment with the WPA working on various government projects during the depression.
After his mothers death, he and his youngest sister moved to Wyoming. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was employed by Mountain Fuel Supply, Boydston Well Service in Cody, Wyoming, Desert Oil and prior to his retirement he worked with the Sweetwater County Road and Bridge.
His interest included camping, hunting, smoking his pipe, and fishing steams and rivers in the Big Sandy Openings.
He was a member of the Wyoming Pioneer Association.
Survivors include one son, Clemeth Skiles of Rock Springs; one daughter, Stella Skiles of Tampa, Florida; one sister, Norma Lee Richards of St. Mary’s Idaho; five grandchildren, Bryson Skiles of Covington, Kentucky, Justin Skiles of Rock Springs, Austin and Jocelyn Skiles of Denver, Colorado, and Stewart Skiles of Rock Springs; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dallas “Dollor” Skiles in 1979, and Everett Skiles in 1995; six brothers, Elmer, Alvin, Ernest, C.T., Chester, and Joe; and two sisters, Alma Marie and Edna.
Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
A private family memorial service will take place at a later date.
