Rock Springs – Leonard Eugene Colpitts, 74, died Tuesday July 6, 2004 at home in Rock Springs after a lengthy illness. Leonard was born January 24, 1930 in Thurman, Colorado the son of Harlow William and Alma Riemenschneider Colpitts. He attended school and graduated from high school in Colorado. He was a US Army Veteran, having served during the Korean war. On December 16, 1975 he married Darlene “Dolly” McNew in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #1620, Eagles Lodge, and the Good Sam’s Club. His interest included woodworking, inventing, fishing, and spending winters in Yuma, Arizona. Survivors include his wife “Dolly” of Rock Springs; two sons, Leonard Colpitts and wife Tricia of Mesa, Arizona, Wesley Colpitts of Rock Springs; three stepsons, Bud Smith, Philip Smith and wife Renee, and Steven Smith and wife Terri all of Rock Springs; one daughter, Brenda Davis and husband Glen of Mesa, Arizona; one stepdaughter, Lorry Redding and husband Richard of Wheatland, Wyoming; two brothers Floyd Colpitts of Hamilton, Montana, Gerald Colpitts of Oklahoma; four sisters, Betty Little and husband John of Rock Springs, Joyce Holterman and husband Dick of Florida, Sharon Trautman of Rawlins, Wyoming, and Pat Ruder and husband Tom of Mesquite, Nevada; nineteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Cremation will take place at Fox Funeral Home, Rock Springs. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday July 12, 2004 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs. Military honors by American Legion and inurnment will be in the Veterans section of Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
