Leon Blackie Rock Springs - Leon Blackie, 47, of Rock Springs, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County after a sudden illness. He was born March 25, 1966 in San Juan County, New Mexico, the son of Joe Blackie and Betty Lopez Blackie. He attended schools in Green River. He work for Haliburton as a pipefitter and fabricator welder. His interests were welding, horses, fishing, being a pitman for racing team, and spending time with his family. Survivors included three brothers, Samuel Blackie and wife Lorraine, and Leonard Blackie all of Rock Springs, Leroy Blackie of New Mexico; sister Jolene Blackie of Rock Springs; nephews Lucas and Joey Blackie of Rock Springs; nieces Valerie Leisch and husband Mike, Vanessa Ahenakew and husband Dennis, Latonya, Jalisa, Rayelle Blackie, and Felicia Baird all of Rock Springs; He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Betty Blackie, brother Leander Blackie, sister Joann Rodriquez, grandparents John and Helen Blackie, Authur and Lucy Lopez. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Lybrook LDS Chapel, Lybrook, New Mexico. Interment will take place in the LDS Cemetery, Lybrook, New Mexico. Services in New Mexico will be handled by Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W Arrington St, Farmington, NM 87401.
