Lois Maud Eversole Rock Springs - Lois Maud Eversole, 95, died January 24, 2012 in Orem, Utah with family by her side. She was born October 28, 1916 in Ogden, Utah, the second child of 10 children born to Merle W. and Etta May Newey VanZandt. Growing up. Lois lived in many small railroad towns in Wyoming. Her father worked as a signal maintainer for the UP and the family lived in Dix NE, Granite Canyon, Bitter Creek, Black Buttes, Altamont, Leroy, Peru, Aspen, and Rawlins, WY. Most of these small towns did not have schools so the VanZandt children attended schools in nearby towns to complete their education. Many times, this meant living with families who were recommended by the schools, away from home. Lois did this from age 7 through high school. Most years she worked for the host family as their maid and housekeeper to earn her board and room while attending school. Her early school years were in Evanston, Green River, Ogden, Utah, Mountain View, Wyoming and Cheyenne. She graduated from Cheyenne High School with the class of 1935. Lois met Elza L. Eversole in Bitter Creek and they were later married in Green River on November 29, 1937. He preceded her in death in 2006 after nearly 69 years of marriage. They spent most of their life together in the livestock industry with sheep and cattle ranching. They lived in Bitter Creek, Pacific Springs, Little Sandy, and Rock Springs. Their life together was characterized by traditional Western rangeland ranching with a true passion for that lifestyle. Her interests were working alongside her husband in their early years, and in later years taking care of her family, cooking, reading, crocheting, playing many varieties of solitaire, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Wyoming Stock Growers, Wyoming Farm Bureau, Whirlwind Homemakers, and local Chariot Racing Club. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
