Mildred Parks
Rock Springs - Mildred Parks, 92 of Rock Springs died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River, Wyoming. She was a lifelong resident of Rock Springs.
She was born May 4, 1921 in Rock Springs, the daughter of the late John and Annie Fenus Matkovich. She attended schools in Quealy and Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1939.
She worked at her family owned businesses in partnership with her late father operating the Quealy Trading Company Store in Quealy and later at the Hillside Motel in Rock Springs.
She married Keith “Sparky” Andrew Parks on May 6, 1945 and worked in partnership with him to run the family owned businesses.
She was a member of the SCM Catholic Church.
Her strong spiritual capacity and her fabulous sense of humor were central to whom she was. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren considered her to be an angel on earth. She was known for her cooking and baking with her pies being a genuine specialty.
She loved gardening, music, the outdoors, animals, picnics, camping and taking adventurous rides in the country. For many years, she played pinochle with her friends. Her loving and beautiful heart was evident in her warm and cozy home.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Parks and wife Berta of Midvale, Utah, and Arthur Parks and wife Joan of Rock Springs; three daughters Kathy Kumer and husband Jerry of Rock Springs, Joanie Fletcher of Corpus Christi, TX, and Patty Leibnitz and husband Bob of Rock Springs; sister Betty Muir of Rock Springs; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother John Matkovich and one sister Marion Riggs.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs. Father Glen Szczechowski will officiate.
Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, January 5, 2014 and Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery, Rock Springs.
