ROCK SPRINGS -- Norma Jean Hanks, 91, of Rock Springs died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, at Deer Trail Assisted Living in Rock Springs.
She was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Ivan George Petersen and Florence Emily Weir Petersen. She attended schools in Lexington, Nebraska, and graduated from Lexington High School with the Class of 1942.
She married Robert Lloyd Hanks on Aug. 29, 1943, in Beloit, Kansas. He preceded her in death Nov. 9, 1981.
Besides being a wife and mother, she worked in the food service department for Sweetwater County School District No. 1 and Western Wyoming Community College.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Red Hat Society.
Her interests were gardening and traveling.
Survivors include her son Tom Hanks of Laramie; daughter-in-law Ruth Hanks; grandchildren Stephanie Jackson, Rebecca Hanks and Sarah Munoz; great-grandchildren Solveig Hanks, Mason Munoz, Alice Jackson, Violet Jackson and Ivan Faycosh; nieces and nephews Pat Bremer, Terry Nimmo and wife, Jolynn, Betty Ann Bell, Elmer Hanks, Janette Murrell, Laverne Jackson, Betty Johnson and Sara Binam; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son Gary Hanks; sisters Anita Petersen and Vera Barnes; and brother Robert Petersen.
Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, 1515 Edgar St., Rock Springs. Pastor Jim Chrisawn will officiate.
Inurnment will take placed in the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Rock Springs.
