Olive Ann Freeman Rock Springs - Olive Ann Freeman, 90, died peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River. Mrs. Freeman had been a resident of CRCC for the past 3 ½ years, and had been a long-time resident of Rock Springs. She was born on Sept. 15, 1918 in Ogden, Utah the daughter of John W. and Josephine Wallace. She attended schools in Superior and Rock Springs and graduated at age 16 from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1935. She was a member of the Gros Ventre chapter of the National Honor Society while in high school. She attended Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. Mrs. Freeman worked in secretarial positions in Salt Lake and Denver, and worked for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. during WWII. Following the war, she worked for the U. S. Government in Japan during the occupation of Japan. While in Japan, she met her future husband, Robert V. Freeman, an officer with the U.S. Army. Following his return from combat in Korea, they were married on May 4, 1952 in Rock Springs. They lived in Camp Pickett, Virginia and Fort Knox, Kentucky until her husband left the army in 1957. They then moved to Rock Springs, where they made their home and raised a family. Her interests included reading, sewing, knitting and cooking. She was an active member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Elks, Eagles, and PEO. She also volunteered for a number of years for the 4H, and helped her husband in several businesses and employment, as well as working part-time for the Bureau of the Census. She will be remembered as well-read, well-spoken and a wonderful wife, mother and cook. Survivors include one sister, Patricia Wangsgard of Ogden; one son , Dennis Freeman and wife Becky of Green River; two daughters, Roberta Ann Freeman and Janice Grace Freeman, both of Rock Springs; grandchildren, Alexander and Erin Freeman of Green River, Robert Thompson of Rock Springs, and Sarah Tucker of Kingman, Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Col. John W. Wallace U.S.A.F. Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs. Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at the First Congregational Church-UCC, 1275 Adams, Rock Springs. Inurnment will take place in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
