Owen Dale “Rusty” Owens passed away October 29 following a courageous and strong battle with cancer. He was 64. Rusty was born to Betty Louise and Edwin LaVain Owens March 9, 1952 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Rusty attended schools in Green River Wyoming and Hastings Nebraska. Rusty graduated from Green River High School in 1970.
Rusty met his best friend, wife, and eternal companion, Rosanne “Sandy” Cimino Owens, at the age of 16. Sandy states that she fell instantly in love with him the moment she saw him. His kind manor, confidence, respect, and caring nature drew her to Rusty. They married on September 16, 1972. They were sealed in the Salt Lake temple on November 11, 1978. Their union brought four children, John Charles, Jacob Michael, Heidi Ann, and Alex Ringdahl.
Rusty’s highest priority was his family, and family gave Rusty his greatest happiness. Thus, Rusty’s interests of ranching, horse training, camping, hunting, and traveling were centered around creating and developing strong family relations.
Rusty was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rusty served faithfully in many callings within the church. Rusty’s most recent calling was to coordinate church services for residents of Mission at Castle Rock Rehabilitation Center in Green River. This was one of Rusty’s favorite callings, as he was able to help residents experience needed spiritual blessings through church attendance.
Rusty is survived by his wife and eternal companion, Sandy Owens, his parents, LaVain and Betty Louise Owens, his children, John Owens and wife Elonna, Jake Owens and wife Janalyn, Heidi Smith and husband Bo, and Alex Owens and wife Sabrina. He is also survived by one sister, three brothers, their spouses, and 14 grandchildren. Rusty was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Marguerite Owens, and Alex and Wanda Ringdahl.
Funeral services for Rusty will be held at 11:00 am Thursday November 3, 2016 at the Green River LDS Stake Center located at 120 Shoshone Ave., in Green River. Friends may call 9:30 -10:30 am Thursday at the church prior to the services.
Interment will take place at the Riverview Cemetery, Green River.
