Robert Lee Volsey
Rock Springs - Robert Lee Volsey, 74, a lifelong resident of Rock Springs, died Friday, December 16, 2011 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born November 24, 1937 in Rock Springs, the son of Jack J. Volsey and Julia Fabiny Volsey. He attended schools in Rock Springs and graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1956. He also graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science.
He married Ruth Ethel Daly on August 14, 1960 in Rock Springs.
He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He was also a lifetime member of B.P.O.E.
He owned and operated R.L. Volsey Funeral Chapel. He later worked as a funeral director at Fox Funeral Home. He had been employed as a miner at both Stauffer Chemical and T.G. Soda Ash, as a deputy with Sweetwater County Sheriffs Department and was owner and operator of White Eagle Motor, and later was a driver for Sweetwater Medics.
His interests were hunting, horses, motorcycling, building with wood, building his own home and garage, and working with metal, rebuilding a 38' Airstream Trailer and other projects. His other interests were Dobermans and everything that involved family.
He rode on the Pony Express commemorative ride in 1960, was a founding member of Sweetwater County Search and Rescue, and spearheaded the Boars Tusk Sand Rally for several years.
He taught his wife, kids and grandkids to ride motorcycles.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Volsey; son Jack J. Volsey II and wife Carol; daughter Janeen Ellen Volsey and husband Keith Chugg; grandson 2nd Lieutenant Robert Lee Volsey II and granddaughters Rachael Lynn Volsey and Amanda Jane Chugg;
several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and his granddog Mitzy Dupree.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Robert L. Volsey and infant grandson Michael John Volsey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday December 22, 2011 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, A Street and Broadway. The Reverend Carl Beavers will officiate.
Friends may call 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday December 21, 2011 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs. A parish rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at the St. Joseph section of the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at the Volsey home, 538 Washakie Dr., Rock Springs following the interment.
