Ruth Wynell Merlau Rock Springs - Ruth Wynell Merlau, 80,, died Sunday, January 10, 2016 at University of Utah Medical Center from a sudden illness. She has been a resident of Rock Springs since 2003. She was born April 17, 1935 in Scurry, Texas, the daughter of Goss and Irene Boles DeMasters. She attended high school in Scurry and graduated from high school with the class of 1953. She married Whitey Merlau in March 12, 1977 in Scurry. Her interests were shopping at Wal-Mart, going camping, visiting with friends and family, reading, and watching W.W.F. Survivors include her husband Whitey Merlau of Rock Springs; son Scott Chapman of Rock Springs; daughters Avis Dodson of Traverse City, Michigan, Treasa Chenoweth and husband Joe of Rock Springs, Gigi Steele and husband Jeff of Arlington, Texas; brother-in-law Roddy Mooney of Scurry; 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Goss and Irene DeMasters, sons Sam Allen, Marty Merlau, and Brian Chapman, and sister Dora Alice Mooney. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs. where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
