Ruth E. Simmons
Rock Springs - Ruth E. Simmons, 77, of Rock Springs died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at her home. She was born October 12, 1936 in Bancroft, West Virginia, the daughter of John E. Simmons and Virginia “Ginny” “Sis” L. Kerwood Simmons.
She married Walter Woodyard Jr. They were later divorced. She married Denny L. Roberts. He preceded her in death.
She graduated from Bancroft High School and also attended Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs.
She worked as a professional care giver for many years. She had been employed by Gallipolis State Institution in Gallipolis, Ohio, Kimberly Manor, Sage View Care Center, and Sweetwater County Child Development Center in Rock Springs, Casper Girls School in Casper, Southwest Counseling Services, and SWRC in Rock Springs until her retirement at the age of 71.
Her interests were her family, her faith in God, her career with working with children, adults, and the elderly with disabilities, catfish fishing, cross country skiing, golfing, reading, and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include son Walter “Walt” David Woodyard of Columbus, Ohio; daughters Virginia Elizabeth “Beth” (Roberts) Williams and Evelyn “Dorlee” (Woodyard) Collins and husband Jeff L. Brown all of Rock Springs; brother Charles “Pete” Kerwood of Norfolk, Virginia; sister Nyoka Lynn “Sissy” George and husband Herman of Morgantown, West Virginia; grandchildren Angelique Nycole Collins, Trevor Hicks-Collins, Adam Hamson, Sarah E. Outlan Delmarco-Baca and husband Andrew, Taunie Rachelle Williams, Tyler Troy Williams, David “Allen” (Woodyard) Stapelton, J.T. (Woodyard) Dupont, and Brian Scott Brown and wife Jess.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Trilla Lee Roberts, eleven siblings, paternal and maternal parents, grandparents and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will take place in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery, Rock Springs.
