Scott P. Christensen Rock Springs - Scott P. Christensen, 57, of Rock Springs, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 after a sudden illness. He was born October 7, 1955 in Vermillion, South Dakota the son of Peter and Eleanor Christensen. He grew up farming and graduated from Vermillion High School with the class of 1973. He then went on to college in Milford, Nebraska and received his Associates degree in diesel mechanics from Southeast Tech. After graduating, he moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming where is resided for 35 years. In 1981, he met his first wife, Kelly Marvel and his first child Amber Scheibmeir. Kelly and Scott were married in October 1983 and their first son, Eric Scott Christensen was born in March of 1984. They were later divorced. In 2001 he met Sandy McGuire who would become his wife on November 17, 2005. At this time, he also inherited 3 more children, Tanya and John Lusch and Steve Kiehm. Over the years, Scott was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Brittanie, Nathan, Ryan, Damien, Echo, Jolie, Daniel, Peyton, and Dominic who range in ages from 3 to 14. He worked as a Journeyman field mechanic and working foreman for 32 years with Bridger Coal. He was extremely active in the local chapter of the Western Energy Workers Union, formerly the United Boilermakers. He also actively raised money to support the United Way of Sweetwater County. He had many interests in his life but what he enjoyed most was spending time with his grandchildren and family, particularly camping, four wheeling, snowmobiling and other outdoor activities. He also enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and finding projects he could focus his attention on, with the latest of these being his hovercraft. Survivors include his wife Sandy Christensen of Rock Springs; 5 children, Eric Christensen, Amber Schwarzwalter, Tanya Hardin, and Steve Kiehm all of Rock Springs, John Lusch of Saratoga, WY; 9 grandchildren, Brittanie Doan, Nathan and Ryan Lusch, Echo and Peyton Schwarzwalter, Damien and Daniel Spiers, and Dominic Hardin all of Rock Springs, as well as Jolie McGuire of Saratoga, WY; 3 siblings and their spouses, Judy and Jim Peters of Del Rapids, SD, Dave and Jacqueline Morris of Hernando Beach, FL, and Clark and Deb Christensen of Vermillion, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Eleanor Christensen. Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs. A Celebration of his life will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Sweetwater County Events Complex main exhibit hall, 3320 Yellowstone Rd., Rock Springs. A gathering of friends and family will follow immediately after for food, drink and sharing memories.
