Walter J. Hand
Rock Springs - Walter J. Hand, 80, of Rock Springs, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Sage View Care Center in Rock Springs after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 14, 1931 in Albany Georgia, the son of Claud Hand and Nannie Boatman Hand.
Following his military service to our country, he worked in the oilfields in California and Texas. He moved to Nevada and was employed in construction at a missile test site.
He owned a machine shop in Nevada. He then worked overseas in the oilfields of Libya and later came back to the United States to work in the oilfields of Wyoming. Since the mid 1980's, he owned and operated an auto repair shop in Rock Springs.
His interests were cars, dirt track racing, and NASCAR.
Survivors include his Christian family at the Central Church of Christ in Rock Springs and those who cared for him at Sage View Care Center.
Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at a future date.
