Wilbur "Jim" D. Vanderpool

Green River - Wilbur "Jim" D. Vanderpool, 69, of Green River, died Monday, January 8, 2007 at Sage View Care Center after a short illness. He was born November 8, 1937 in Belfouche, South Dakota, the son of Clifford Burton and Viola Margaret Ragland Vanderpool. Jim was a Wyoming native having lived in Sundance, Saratoga, Laramie, Hiawatha, Lander Rock Springs, and Green River. Jim graduated from Rock Springs High School with the class of 1955. He served in the US Navy for three years. He married Virginia Ager on November 24, 1957 in Rock Springs. They lived in Laramie and Rock Springs until 1969 when they moved to Green River. Jim had been employed for Mountain Fuel at the Hiawatha Oil Camp from 1961 to 1968. He then worked for General Chemical, retiring in 1991 after 25 years. He also was employed by Zueck Transportation and Bunning Transfer. He was a member of Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge #6 in Green River for 25 years, a member of Mystic Chapter #8 O.E.S., Good Sam’s Club, Firehole Gang. He was also a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. His interests were square dance calling for 18 years, ham radio operator, fishing, hunting, camping, banjo playing, pool at Golden Hour Senior Citizens Center, and stock car racing. Survivors include his wife Virginia Vanderpool of Green River; two sons, Clifford A. Vanderpool and wife Tara of Green River, Stephen and wife Sammie of Salt Lake City; one daughter, Joanne Conroy and husband Charles; one brother Jr. Dale Vanderpool of Lander, Wyoming; seven grandchildren, Joe and Laura, Conroy, Jaquimarie, Davianne, Kelsie, Greggory and Alexandra Vanderpool; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Viola Vanderpool, one brother Howard (Spud) Vanderpool, one son David Vanderpool, one grandson Morgan Vanderpool. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, 2nd & B Street, Rock Springs.
