William "Bill" Ernest Carter Rock Springs- William "Bill" Ernest Carter, 69, of Rock Springs died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Veterans Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah after a lengthy illness. He was born February 7, 1940 in Enid, Oklahoma, the son of Harry Ernest and Jewlene Mary West Carter. He married Joyce T. Miller. They were later divorced. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2004. He also married Eleanor Davidson. They were later divorced. She preceded him in death on July 14, 2005. He served in the US Navy from 1956-1960. He was employed in the oilfields until his retirement after an injury in 1986. He attended the Evangelical Free Church in Rock Springs. Bill was a member of Rock Springs Eagles 151 and the American Legion Archie Hay Post 24 where he served with the honor guard for many years. His interests included hunting, fishing, playing pool, traveling, cooking and sharing his cooking with others. Survivors include sons, Wendell Carter, Bill and Dave Schmidt all of Lake Stevens, Washington, and LaMont Schmidt of Kansas; daughters, Laura Hernandez of Lake Stevens, and Judy Ann Reed of Pinebluff, Wyoming; best friend Jeanette Matlock of Rock Springs; several grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Steven Carter, brother Steven James Carter and stepdaughter Virginia Smith. Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs. Memorial services with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, June 5, 2009 at Fox Funeral Home, 2800 Commercial Way, Rock Springs.
