William Tyrrell

William B. Tyrrell Rock Springs - William B. Tyrrell, age 83, died on February 21, 2012. He was born on September 8, 1928 in Gillette, Wyoming, the son of Charley and Fern Scott Tyrrell. After graduating from Gillette High School in 1947 he joined the U.S. Navy where he served for four years as a radioman on C-47’s and blimps. While working as a boat guide at Signal Mountain Lodge on Jackson Lake he met Gloria Schulze. They were married in the Church of the Transfiguration at Moose, Wyoming on September 12, 1953. In 1956, after graduating from the University of Wyoming with a degree in geology, he worked for Atlantic Oil Co. for several years. He changed careers and became a science teacher. He taught biology at Laramie Junior High, he then moved to Rock Springs where he taught earth science until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was passionate about arrowheads and archeology. The most important thing in life was his family. Bill and Gloria did a great job raising their three children, Scott, Bob and Barb, and saw to their education at the University of Wyoming. They were avid Brown and Gold fans. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years Gloria, children Scott Tyrrell (Mary) of Greeley, Bob Tyrrell (Ginger) of Kemmerer and Barb Hency (Hency) of Colorado Springs, along with six grandsons, Zach Tyrrell (Anna), Brett Tyrrell (Heather), Geoff Tyrrell, Luke Tyrrell, Alex Tyrrell and Sean Tyrrell, and one brother Buck Tyrrell (Dorothy) of Gillette. He was preceded in death by his parents Charley and Fern Tyrrell, four brothers Lee, Fritz, Joe, and Jim and three sisters Jean, Betty and MaryAnn. A memorial for William Tyrrell has been established at the University of Wyoming, George Frison Institute in the Dept. of Anthropology. Donations may be sent to Wyoming Archeological Foundation, Dept. 3431, 1000 E. University, Laramie, WY 82071. As a Dad, Grandpa and friend, your love, guidance and support will be forever cherished, as will the happiness that you brought to all whom your wonderful life has touched. Cremation has taken place at Fox Crematory, Rock Springs. At his request, no services will be held.
